Learning about and investigating the world around us

Making Butter!

Reception had great fun making butter by shaking double cream with a marble until it changed texture. They tasted their fresh butter on crackers and really enjoyed discovering where food comes from.

Reception had a great time in the milking parlour, using pipettes as udders to “milk” the cows! They also got creative building animal homes with LEGO using new farm words like stable, pig sty, barn and hut.

Exploring Crops and Seeds

As part of our Fun on the Farm topic, the children have been learning about how things grow by planting their own seeds and discovering what plants need to grow strong and healthy. They also enjoyed exploring a variety of crops, including lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans and rice, helping them to understand where some of our everyday foods come from.

Volcano Eruption!

As part of our Long Long Ago topic, the children enjoyed creating their own volcano eruption experiment. They took turns carefully adding ingredients and watching the reaction unfold, helping them to learn about volcanoes and how dramatic events like eruptions are linked to the time of the Dinosaurs and their extinction.

During Science Week, the children enjoyed visiting a science fair and taking part in an exciting workshop. They explored different experiments, asked lots of curious questions, and discovered how fun science can be!

International Week

During International Week, Reception enjoyed dressing up in traditional clothing and celebrating cultures from around the world. We also explored our class continent of Antarctica, learning all about its cold climate and fascinating wildlife, especially the penguins!

Mardi Gras

We loved visiting Year 5’s fantastic Mardi Gras exhibition. We learnt so much and we were so impressed that we created our very own colourful Mardi Gras masks. Thank you Year 5!
