Catholic Primary School

“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"

Expressive arts and design

In the Good Shepherd EYFS we believe that the development of children’s artistic and cultural awareness supports their imagination and creativity.  We provide children with regular opportunities to engage with the arts, enabling them to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials.  We strive to provide children with a high quality and large variety of opportunities to see, hear and participate in experiences and activities that will foster their understanding, self-expression, vocabulary and ability to communicate through the arts.  We believe that the frequency, repetition and depth of these experiences are fundamental to their progress in interpreting and appreciating what they hear, respond to and observe.

Children in our nursery and reception have weekly access to music sessions with our school music teacher. In addition to this we have a stage in our garden, set up for children to explore rhythm and beat with a range of percussions instruments, some of which they have helped to make. They practise the music terminology that they have learned in lessons and sing a range of songs at the top of their voices, loving the freedom to express themselves in the open air!
