The Examen

Each Friday afternoon, pupils across the school participate in the Examen—a dedicated time for quiet reflection, mindfulness, and spiritual growth. This practice allows students to pause, be still, and reflect on their experiences from the past week.

During the Examen, pupils are encouraged to think about moments of gratitude, challenges they faced, and how they can improve or seek support. It is also an opportunity for them to consider how they have lived out the school’s values and how they can prepare their hearts and minds for the week ahead.

Rooted in Ignatian spirituality, the Examen fosters a sense of self-awareness, gratitude, and a deeper connection to God, helping pupils develop emotional resilience, empathy, and a reflective mindset.

Year 5: Vessels of Honour

In Year 5's "Vessels of Honour" celebration, pupils gathered to reflect on purpose and readiness to serve God. As a response, each pupil drew a vessel they aspire to be, symbolising commitment to be "set apart for honourable use" in God's service. For our mission, they agreed to daily prayer and Scripture meditation, beginning each morning and after lunch to stay spiritually prepared. They then read from 2 Timothy, reflecting on how each of them can be a "vessel for honourable use," dedicated and ready for every good work.

Year 6: Celebration of the Word

Year 6 led a thought-provoking Celebration of the Word as part of their collective act of worship. This focused on scripture from Luke's Gospel, highlighting Mary, the Annunciation, and her role in fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament.

As part of their worship, the pupils decided to use a striking icon of the Annunciation, which enhanced the spiritual atmosphere and deepened their reflection on this significant moment in Salvation History. This celebration closely connected to the themes explored in their RE lessons.

Lectio Divina

Throughout the week, Year 3 children engage in worship in many meaningful ways. Here, they are practicing Lectio Divina, a reflective reading of the Bible. In this moment, Jesus speaks to them through scripture, and they reflect on how they can shine like stars in their actions and words.

Year 3: Celebration of the Word

Year 3 led a beautiful Celebration of the Word as part of their collective act of worship. This took place in the Mary Garden, with Mary as their central focus, providing a peaceful and reflective setting for their prayers and readings.
