“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"
BRANCH 2
PROPHECY AND PROMISE
In Branch 2, the learning topics include retelling religious accounts from Annunciation and the birth of Jesus. The accounts will be taken from the Gospel of Luke. This branch includes identifying Zechariah's message about John the Baptist's future (Luke 1:76) and recognising that the church teaches that Mary is the mother of God who prays for them. Pupils will also describe some ways in which Christians prepare for Jesus' coming at Christmas during the season of Advent.
During this branch, the children learnt The Magnificat and the Our Father prayers. These connected to their learning on Mary as the Mother of God, and the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of Preferential Option for the Poor during the season of Advent. As a class, we will think about ways in which we can help others. The children will watch the Christmas story re-enacted at Lambeth Palace, and then act out the story of the birth of Jesus in the Nativity performance.
Branch 2 Topic Assessment
Examples of the end of topic assessment work. The children have demonstrated learning by using the key words from each lesson in their writing and illustrated this in their pictures. In the assessment lesson, the children are recalling prior learning and sequencing this in order.
Year 2 Travelling Crib (Lambeth Palace)
The pupils travelled to Lambeth Palace to experience an outdoor performance of the Nativity. Here, they met Mary, The Wise Men, shepherds, donkey, and went on an interactive journey with the characters. During the workshop, the children followed the characters to Bethlehem and built on their learning of the Advent season.
Nativity Performance
The Year 2 children acted out the Christmas story in the end of term Nativity performance.
