“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"
Today, KS2 pupils participated in an engaging workshop with Mr. De Pulford, where they learned Tantum Ergo, a beautiful Medieval Latin hymn composed by St. Thomas Aquinas. The session introduced the children to the origins of chanting, tracing it back to the monks of the early Church. Pupils explored the idea that "singing is like praying twice," reflecting on how music can deepen both prayer and spirituality.
We also discovered that Tantum Ergo holds a significant place in the Church's liturgy, as it is traditionally sung during the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. It is often used in Eucharistic Adoration, a special time when we gather to reflect and pray in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. This workshop not only provided the children with a deeper appreciation for the connection between music and faith but also allowed them to experience the rich tradition of Gregorian Chant.
