The Good Shepherd

Catholic Primary School

“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"

EYFS Religious Education

Our last topic of the year is called Our Church Family. Children learn that as Christians, we all belong to this family. They learn about the many special reasons why we go to church including weddings and funerals but also to praise, thank and ask God for help and forgiveness. They hear about the sacrament of Baptism and are invited to act this, and other special times, in our little garden church.

Children learn about Lent, beginning with Palm Sunday and ending with the resurrection. Our chef always makes us pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and Father Mark involves the children in early years in a special Ash Wednesday service in the school hall.

Christmas in early years is always full of joy with Advent activities like wrapping presents and putting up the tree and decorations in our home corner. Then participating in our wonderful nativity performance, a special Christmas lunch, visits from Father Christmas, a theatre trip to see Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs at the Lyric and lots of opportunities to respond to Christmas in a range of ways including role play, art and crafts.
