“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"
In Creation and Covenant we will hear readings from the Good News Bible, learning that the Bible is a very special book. During this branch we will be exploring the story of the Creation. We will hear that God created our wonderful word and everything in it. Children will hear that God made them and come to know that God loves us all, always. We will give thanks to God for our wonderful world. During Laudato Si we will begin to understand how God has provided our common home for us to share and will explore how we can look after our world.
We will begin to learn the celebration of prayer, being introduced to the words and actions of the sign of the cross: ‘In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen’. We will begin to learn that prayer is a time for stillness, talking to and being with God. We will begin learning to say our class prayers in the morning, before lunch and at the end of the day.
We have come to understand that prayer is a profoundly special time, a period for stillness and quiet, a moment dedicated to speaking with God.
Our experience of prayer has been diverse, encompassing meditation, the celebration of words, gatherings in the early years, and engaging with hymns and the Examen.
In October, a member of our Chaplaincy team came to introduce the practice of the Rosary.
We have explored the story of Creation from the Bible, listening to and identifying all the things God created. We then illustrated and sequenced the story.
We have wandered through our garden, acknowledging and discussing the marvels of God's creation.
We have planted new bulbs in our garden, aware that with proper care, we will see the beautiful flowers bestowed by nature bloom in the spring.
We have come to know that god created us and will always love us.
We have delighted in the story "A Handful of Buttons."
Much like the buttons, we are all connected by a single thread that weaves through each person's heart, enabling us to love, care for, and help one another. We recognize that we are all members of one divine family. We crafted our own buttons and strung them onto a special thread.
We have learned that Pope Francis penned a special letter, Laudato Si, urging us to care for our common home, God's wonderful world.
This week, we crafted special green hearts as reminders to protect our environment. We picked up litter from our garden, made bird feeders to sustain the birds through winter, and composted fruit peels for nutrient-rich soil. We diligently sorted our waste to enhance recycling efforts, even creating new paper from scraps collected in the staff room. Additionally, we baked a banana cake using fairtrade ingredients and created paintings with fairtrade spices mixed with water.
A group of us made a long journey up to year 5 and presented our activities to them.
Year 2 also made a visit to us to share their work and information on climate change.
