Mary's Meals- Parish Appeal

The children of The Good Shepherd School actively live out their mission statement by putting their faith into action and raising money each year to support Beka Primary School in Malawi. Their efforts include making and selling ice cream in the summer, preparing and selling homemade tomato pasta sauce, and raising funds through home clothes days. This year, they are taking an extra step by inviting families to pay for a school meal for each child in Beka Primary.

In 2019, The Good Shepherd School partnered with Holy Ghost and St. Stephen’s Catholic Church to raise £4,267.30 for Mary's Meals. This generous donation allowed the school community to sponsor a feeding program for Beka Primary School, providing vital meals for the students.

The Good Shepherd’s ongoing support of Beka Primary has been a remarkable success. The school's enrollment has increased from 304 students (173 boys and 131 girls) to 378 students (214 boys and 164 girls) over the past five years—a growth of 74 children attending school, thanks to the generosity and hard work of The Good Shepherd School community!

This is faith in action.

This is our response to Christ’s call:

“Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” Then the righteous will answer him, saying, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?” And the King will answer them, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” — Matthew 25: 34-40

Kids Speak Up – An Education Animation

Still image for this video
Children in KS2, in collaboration with a local school nurse, created an award-winning animation that teaches children about allergies. This impactful project, recently recognised at the Nursing Times Awards, serves as both an educational tool and a reflection of Catholic Social Teaching principles. The animation not only educates young pupils on managing and responding to allergies but also promotes the Principle of the Common Good, emphasising the health and well-being of all pupils, especially those with allergies. It embodies the Principle of Solidarity, encouraging children to care for and support one another, particularly the most vulnerable members of their community. This award-winning initiative highlights our school's commitment to nurturing both knowledge and compassion, rooted in our Catholic values.
