“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"
By the end of this branch, pupils will be able to retell key stories from the Bible, such as the Road to Emmaus, the Promise of the Spirit and the Ascension, and Pentecost, with increasing detail. They will learn to sequence these stories along with earlier accounts of Jesus' life, understanding the broader narrative of His mission and the mission of the Church, as announced by Jesus in Luke 4:16-19.
Pupils will also recognise the significance of special days like the Ascension and Pentecost in the Catholic Church. Through critical thinking, they will explore the emotions of the apostles following the Resurrection and the different ways the Holy Spirit is expressed in the Bible, such as through wind, fire, and other symbols. Pupils will engage with art, music, and stories to deepen their understanding of the Holy Spirit's presence. They will reflect on the importance of prayer and consider how Christians share the Gospel through both words and actions.
Pupils will learn about Mary’s Meals and how the charity’s work exemplifies the Catholic Social Teaching principle of caring for the common good. They will explore how providing meals to children in need helps to create a more just and compassionate world, reflecting Mary’s caring spirit and her example of selfless love. By understanding the impact of Mary’s Meals, pupils will recognise how helping others, particularly those who are most vulnerable, contributes to the well-being of the wider community. They will connect this act of service to the call for solidarity and care for all, especially the poor and marginalised, seeing how small actions can make a big difference in promoting the common good.
