The Good Shepherd

Catholic Primary School

“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"

Branch 3 Galilee to Jerusalem

BRANCH 3

GALILEE TO JERUSALEM

In Branch 3, pupils retell the account of John the Baptist and the baptism of Jesus. Baptism begins a relationship with God and the Holy Spirit is present in this Catholic sacrament. The children will be learning about parables with specific reference to The Parable of the Lost Sheep from the Gospel of Luke. We link this lesson to The Good Shepherd's name and mission statement, thinking about how we can guide, include and forgive others.

The pupils will aim to recognise that everyone is tempted to make bad choices and sin, but that God loves and forgives all people, and that the Kingdom of God is accessible to all. They will begin to recognise miracles of Jesus as the Son of God. Children will use religious words and phrases to recognise how Catholics say sorry to God in prayer and talk about why saying sorry to God and others is important.

The Baptism of Jesus

The Baptism of Jesus

The pupils learnt about the baptism of Jesus and John the Baptist. This linked to their previous learning on prophets in the bible. We discussed the importance of the holy water, and how baptism is a sacrament of the Catholic Church. The children wrote about the reasons for baptism, and how this washes away sin and enables us to become members of God's family.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke Chapter 15:3-7)

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

The pupils learnt about parables from the bible, with specific reference to The Parable of the Lost Sheep. We discussed that parables are a type of story that Jesus used to teach us about God's approval. This teaches us that God's love is unbreakable, and that he loves all creation the same. It also teaches us about God's inclusivity and forgiveness.
