“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"
Year 5 explored the message of Laudato Si’ through a creative journey, beginning with a Celebration of the Word and research into water pollution.
To raise awareness of environmental harm, we designed Monopoly-style board games using recycled materials, plastic lids for game pieces, and old magazines and scrap paper for the boards. These games will be shared with other children at the Good Shepherd to inspire action and care for our common home.
This October, Year 5 has been diving into Black History Month by exploring the lives of inspiring individuals from Hammersmith and Fulham who made a difference in their communities and fought for justice and equality.
This year, our focus has been on Lolita Roy, a remarkable figure whose contributions to social justice continue to inspire. After learning about her life and achievements, the children created beautiful and imaginative fact files shaped like dresses. When opened, these dress-shaped displays reveal stories and facts about Lolita Roy, celebrating her legacy in a creative and meaningful way.
Through this project, Year 5 has also reflected on key principles of Catholic Social Teaching, including solidarity, the option for the poor, and the dignity of every person. We hope our work helps others appreciate the importance of standing together for justice and recognizing the value of every individual in our community.
Year 5 pupils led a thoughtful Celebration of the Word focused on Creation and Caring for the Earth, inspired by Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’.
Through prayer, music, and reflection, children explored how to live wisely, think deeply, and love generously to protect our planet. The liturgy included prayers of thanks and pledges to care for the world, supported by engaging resources and hymns.
It was a meaningful, pupil-led moment of faith and stewardship.
Each week, a child from Year 5 will take the prayer book home to write their own prayer. Like a chain, we pass our prayers along, sharing them with God and with each other.
Today, our school joined Archbishop John Wilson in a special celebration to mark the beginning of the Month of the Holy Rosary. We listened to the Gospel story of the Wedding Feast at Cana and reflected on how Mary, Our Blessed Lady, lovingly leads us to Jesus. Together, we prayed a decade of the Holy Rosary, accompanied by two beautiful hymns: Holy Virgin By God’s Decree and Immaculate Mary, sung by Gabriel.
We invite everyone to take part in the Rosary Challenge this October, praying one decade of the Rosary each weekday. With the help of Archbishop John Wilson’s video guides, we’ll journey through all twenty Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.
This morning, Year 5 joined a national online assembly hosted by St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Sheffield to celebrate the Season of Creation. We learned how water tanks in Ethiopia are helping communities, inspired by stories from Abadhalee, Abbiot, and Adi. After the assembly, we had a thoughtful discussion about how we, as pilgrims of hope in this Jubilee Year, can take action to help transform the world.
