“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"
This October, Year 5 has been diving into Black History Month by exploring the lives of inspiring individuals from Hammersmith and Fulham who made a difference in their communities and fought for justice and equality.
This year, our focus has been on Lolita Roy, a remarkable figure whose contributions to social justice continue to inspire. After learning about her life and achievements, the children created beautiful and imaginative fact files shaped like dresses. When opened, these dress-shaped displays reveal stories and facts about Lolita Roy, celebrating her legacy in a creative and meaningful way.
Through this project, Year 5 has also reflected on key principles of Catholic Social Teaching, including solidarity, the option for the poor, and the dignity of every person. We hope our work helps others appreciate the importance of standing together for justice and recognizing the value of every individual in our community.
Each week, a child from Year 5 will take the prayer book home to write their own prayer. Like a chain, we pass our prayers along, sharing them with God and with each other.
This morning, Year 5 joined a national online assembly hosted by St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Sheffield to celebrate the Season of Creation. We learned how water tanks in Ethiopia are helping communities, inspired by stories from Abadhalee, Abbiot, and Adi. After the assembly, we had a thoughtful discussion about how we, as pilgrims of hope in this Jubilee Year, can take action to help transform the world.
