Spring Sports Update

This has been a very successful term for the Good Shepherd sports teams, with an impressive return of trophies and medals in many different events. We continue to demonstrate a high level of participation in tournaments and competitions that present our children with valuable opportunities to develop their skills and also experience the atmosphere of a competitive environment.

So far this term we have been crowned Borough champions in swimming, tag rugby and net ball, and we await the result of our girls’ football team, who will play in the Mayors Cup final after the Easter holidays. Added to this, we have also placed highly in the Year 3 and Year 4 skittle ball tournaments in which most children were representing the school for the first time and our athletics team fell just short of gold in the Borough competition, with an overall position of third. It is also worth noting; that delegation of coaching roles has enabled other members of staff to get involved with the training and preparing of teams and individuals. As a result, both teams and coaches have benefited significantly which can be measured by both the schools successes and more importantly the level of participation in each sport. This year has also seen the introduction of our new P.E. provider, Elite Sports, who are delivering an effective programme of study that motivates and engages children into acquiring basic but valuable skills. Their scheme of work promotes P.E. as ‘about being more than just sport’ and they aim at inspiring children to create a lifetime of healthy habits.
