“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own and my own know me”. John 10:14"
Today’s activities were Survivor and Jacob’s Ladder.
See you in a few hours
We have had another fun day here at PGL. Today’s activities included Archery, Climbing, Capture the Flag and Abseiling.
We had a visit from Mrs Lavelle and we read your letters. Thank you!
We are packing up our belongings tonight before bed as we have another early start in the morning.
See you all tomorrow,
We have had a great second day here at PGL! We woke this morning, all well rested after a much needed night’s sleep and got set for the morning’s activities; PGL Sports Night and Vertical Challenge. In the afternoon, the activities consisted of Giant Swing and Sensory Trail. The evening activity was SPLASH! We are all looking forward for our final full day of activities tomorrow!
We have had the BEST first day ever here at PGL!
Today’s activities included Buggy Building, Passport to the World, Trapeze and Canoeing, followed by our evening activity, Wacky Races.
We are all exhausted this evening but we are looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.
We have arrived safe and sound at PGL!
The afternoon began with a tour of the grounds before moving in.
Later, we had dinner which we all agreed was AMAZING and then it was time for our first evening activity - Quiz Show. It was really fun.
We need to get up at 6:45am tomorrow morning so Miss Mc Daid is hoping we fall asleep soon.
More updates tomorrow evening.
After 45 matches, we finally reached the Lunchtime Champions League Grand Final: Salzburg vs Real Madrid.
The teams had fought through the group and knockout stages to reach this point. It was a very exciting game with lots of children supporting the teams as they tried to find a winning goal. In the end, Real Madrid narrowly won with their second goal scored by Finn. It ended 2-1.
Real Madrid we’re awarded the trophy and their prizes and were then faced with a daunting prospect- taking on the mighty All-Stars!
With Mrs Lavelle leading the attack it was all one-way traffic until Dylan managed to sneak through and grab a goal, nutmegging goalie Ms Usher in the process! Despite a late onslaught, Real Madrid hung on for a famous victory.
Congratulations to Year 6, but especially the team of eight children who visited Kensington Town Hall to present their food waste project, on winning the Children's Award at the Children's Parliament on the Environment. This prestigious prize was awarded to Good Shepherd by the nine other schools who also presented their projects on the day. Maria, Thamar and Andreas were wonderful representatives, bravely speaking in front of around one hundred adults and children.
Hard work pays off!
To celebrate British Science Week, all year groups were treated to a Silly Science workshop - we had so much fun!
This term, we were given the task of designing the interior of the summerhouse kitchen which will be demolished and rebuilt in the summer.
Mr Steel has been sharing his expertise with us and Mr Davis has been demonstrating how to use Sketch Up software to enable us to complete the task.
We are almost finished - our final step is to prepare a presentation for Mrs Lavelle, Mrs Moore-Jaunaii and Etain. We hope they will be very happy with our suggestions.
Year 6 have been very busy this World Book Day!
We started our today with a whole-school assembly, where we got the chance to show off our costumes to everyone. We also had a go at trying to identify the masked reader.
Later, we took part in a live virtual quiz about all things book-related.
In the afternoon, we read our fables to the children in Year 2. We really enjoyed sharing our work with them and we hope to do something similar again.
The Y5/6 girls’ team had a great day at Power League playing in four exciting matches against other local schools. Our player of the tournament was Rioghna, who made a fantastic save in the last moments of a match from a thunderbolt penalty shot. The team supported each other throughout and all gave their best effort. Well done to her and the whole squad!
As part of our 'Children's Parliament for the Environment' project, we visited Phoenix School Farm today to look at ways we can live more sustainably, both at school and at home. We learned that we can grow many different types of fruit and veg at home (no garden needed) and that we simply must do better with our food waste habits.
We planted some of the fruit seeds and vegetable bulbs and took them back to school in the hope that we will be able to grow some of our own. We also dug up some carrots which might look 'weird', but we realise these are just as good as any other carrot and should not be wasted. We are going to use our fruit and veg leftovers at home to make soups and smoothies, rather than throwing them in the bin!
We have also been auditing our food wastage at school and we are hoping to make some changes - watch this space!
Using the money made from our recent cake sale, we purchased some more cushions for our reading corner and added some lights to make it even more pleasant and comfortable than before! We love spending time in our reading corner!
Nine children from Y4, 5 and 6 competed in an exciting multi-skills competition hosted by St.Paul's Girls' School. They had a variety of activities to try, including bowling, football and curling. Our team had a great time and were awarded medals for their team's high score. Well done to all of them!
Year 6 competed in the annual H&F Indoor Athletics Tournament held at Sacred Heart High School. The class had competed in the junior version of this competition when they were in Y4 in 2020, so it was all familiar to them.
The team raced in exciting team relays and took part in a range of field events such as triple jump, speed bounce and javelin.
They finished in 4th place overall, just two points behind third place! It was a great effort from everyone.
Our fourth match of the season saw us take on St Mary’s at Ravenscourt Park.
The girls were first to play, they took the game to their opponents and spent most of the first half attacking. The second half saw the debut of Milka who played in midfield. We were very unlucky not to snatch a winning goal with Paloma going very close near the end of the game. It finished 0-0.
The boys also started on the front foot, denying St Mary’s any time or space. William scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season, both of them at close range. Tadhg rounded off the scoring with two goals of his own. Junix made a confident debut in defence. It finished 4-0.
We talked about how viewing images and videos online might affect our self-esteem. Each group roleplayed a scenario in which a friend offered advice and support to someone with negative feelings about their own appearance.
Our workshop celebrated influential black people in history who spoke out against injustice, including Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr.
Because we are learning about justice in our religion topic and about the transatlantic slave trade in history, this workshop was the perfect way to gain a deeper understanding of injustices faced by so many.
Our girls’ and boys’ football teams played their first matches of the season against Old Oak.
The girls played first in a fast and furious encounter that saw Rioghna make a series of brave saves in goal. The game ended 0-0.
The boys spent most of the first half camped in their opponents’ half and ended the half 1-0 up after Tadhg finished calmly after the ball zipped around the penalty area. A great second goal for Good Shepherd from William in the second half secured the win for the boys.
We learned about the components of our blood in science and then made some 'blood smoothies', with different ingredients representing each of these components. They were delicious!
Can you remember which component each of the ingredients represented, as well as the functions of each component?
We explored the four 'worlds' of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' through drama and role play. We look forward to finding out more about the story in this way.
We had our first outing of the year to Wendell Park. I’m sure the other children in our lunchtime learn-to-ride club will be joining them on the next one!
We learned about the 5 ways to improve our mental wellbeing. We used the simple acronym 'GetCALM.' Can you remember what each of the letters in bold stand for?
Get Giving
Get Connecting
Get Active
Get Learning
Get Mindful
We had another top secret meeting at the end of last term. What do you think they might have been doing?
Keep practising your tables so you can join Club 144 too!

2020 -2021 ARCHIVE
The boys’ and girls’ football teams took part in the annual summer football tournament at Ravenscourt Park. They competed against seven other schools in several exciting matches. The teams were a mix of year five and six footballers.
The girls’ team- captained by Gabrielle- won one and drew two group games. They qualified for the knock-out stages and played St.Stephen’s in the semi-final, narrowly losing 0-1. They finished joint third overall.
The boys also qualified for the knock-out stages after finishing second in their group. They won their semi-final against Brackenbury after the game went to a penalty shoot-out. Julian saved twice to ensure our victory. They faced St.Stephen’s in the final. A very close game ended 1-1. It went to sudden death penalties and Julian saved the day again with a great diving save, winning the match and crowning the boys’ team champions!
The teamwork and support for one another on both teams during the tournament was great to see.
Year 5 were invited to the annual Activity Day at All Saints Catholic College. We split into two groups to try out pizza-making and trampolining.
Year 5 were invited to take part in a sports festival at Burlington Danes Academy. We worked in teams and competed in a variety of fun sporting events. The weather was lovely and everyone had a great time. It was the first sporting event the class (and anyone from the school) has been able to take part in since the indoor athletics competition last February!
What secret things were they up to this time?
Clue: there was lots of adding up of decimals and it was something to do with the European Championships...
We started using block code to control Sphero. Each pair managed to make their Sphero move in a square shape and designed a simple LED matrix animation to show the shape we were drawing. Some groups even managed to code a route in the shape of a triangle. Tricky!
We explored the physics of dropping an egg from a height of 3 metres. We worked out that we needed to:
Increase the time over which the egg was brought to rest.
Decrease the egg's velocity at the time of the crash.
Milka, Caoimhin, Olivia and William won the challenge. They succeeded in protecting their egg, designing a parachute with padding to absorb some of the force of the impact. Well done to them!
Year 4 2019 - 2020

Welcome to Year 3, class of 2018 - 2019!
Lots of little beings with a personality,
Each a little different and a little like me.
Lots of little beings like stars in the sky,
Each one has a different little twinkle in its eye.
Lots of little beings like leaves on a tree,
Hanging all together in a being family.
Lots of little beings like peas in a pod,
Being all together, being loved by God.
